A Month That Should Celebrate Women — Instead, It Brings Hardship

A Month That Should Celebrate Women — Instead, It Brings Hardship

March is usually a time to honor women, their strength, dignity, and achievements.

But in Lebanon, war has reshaped this moment into one of displacement, uncertainty, and urgent need , with women and girls at the center of the crisis.

More than a million are now living in overcrowded shelters, unfinished buildings, or even on the streets. Access to clean water, healthcare, and basic services is severely limited.

Women face heightened risks of:

  • Exploitation
  • Gender-based violence
  • Severe deprivation

THE NUMBERS

According to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), those affected include:

  • 187,000 women of reproductive age
  • 53,400 adolescent girls
  • 12,200 pregnant women — many without access to proper care

OUR RESPONSE

At NO2TA, we are responding on the ground.

So far, we have supported around 2,400 displaced and hosted women and girls through the distribution of sexual and reproductive health and hygiene kits, as well as over 4,000 packs of sanitary pads, ensuring that dignity, health, and basic needs are not overlooked.

FROM THE FIELD

"At NO2TA, our work has always focused on challenging narratives, influencing behaviors, and driving advocacy and policy change. Yet once again, we are pushed into emergency response.

For the second time, we are supporting displaced and hosted women and girls , reaching around 2,400 so far ,ensuring their dignity, health, and basic needs are not overlooked."

— Aliaa Awada, Managing Director, NO2TA

"It’s not just a kit. It’s the feeling that someone thought about us , about our dignity, even in this situation."

“When we left home, we took nothing. Not even the basics. This support made me feel seen again , not just helped.”
